Suspect to appear in court for Feb. murder

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Wednesday, Jackson police took Percy Barber into custody and charged him with the February 20th murder of Willie Burton.

On February 20 a Jackson Police officer responded to UMMC after reports of an assault. 

Upon arrival, the officer was told by hospital staff that the victim, 51-year-old Burton, was brought into the hospital unconscious and appeared to have been assaulted.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head.  The victim died shortly after as a result of his injury and his death was ruled a homicide.

The incident occurred at 351 Derrick St in Jackson.

Barber's initial appearance is Wednesday in Municipal Court.
