Suspect in custody in connection with flare gun incident at Walmart

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Authorities have a man in custody in connection with the firing of a flare gun inside the Walmart on Highway 18, in Jackson. The man is being detained, but no charges have been filed.

We are being told that the Walmart, which is located on Greenway Drive, is closed at this time but employees are being let back in. 

Police say that the suspect took out a flare gun and shot it in the clothing area. The incident started a small fire, and employees and customers evacuated or fled the scene after the shots were heard.

Police and Jackson fire officials were called to the store just after 2 p.m.. 

Arson investigators are on scene and police are canvassing the area along with units from Hinds Sheriff's Office.

Police are looking for a black male, described as 6-feet-tall, who left the scene in a maroon van.
