Industrial Drive shooting suspect former Tougaloo basketball player

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mario Luckett, the suspect in a Thursday night shooting at 4231 Industrial Drive, is a former Tougaloo basketball player. Luckett played for the Bulldogs during the 2010-2011 season.

Luckett, 25-years-old, turned himself in to the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and was later turned over to Jackson Police. He's been charged with aggravated assault.

Police say that their preliminary investigation reveals that there was a physical altercation between the victim, 38-year-old Jawanna Lewis, and Luckett Thursday night. A short time later, shots were fired and the victim was struck.

Officials say Lewis was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he is receiving treatment.
