Acquaintance of Darren Sharper in police custody; held without bond

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Erik Nunez, an acquaintance of Darren Sharper, is now in police custody after turning himself in to the Orleans District Attorney's Office shortly around 9am Friday.

Nunez was accompanied by his attorney. He has been booked with two counts of aggravated rape. An NOPD spokesperson says he's accused of sexually assaulting two women in New Orleans last September.

At a Friday afternoon bond hearing, Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro said Nunez posed a flight risk. Magistrate judge Harry Cantrell then signned an order for Nunez to be held without bond.

Nunez's attorney says he has no prior criminal history and in no way presents a flight risk.

Another hearing is scheduled for March 7th.

Last week, investigators learned that two women were allegedly sexually assaulted by Sharper in the same apartment the night of September 23rd.  New information uncovered also indicates that Nunez also allegedly raped both women that night at the same location.
