Murder victim's family speaks out

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The family of a murder victim is speaking out in hopes that justice will soon be served. THe killers remain on the run and the family of James Brian McAlister want justice.

"I heard the gun go off and I heard Brian holler when the bullet hit him," said the victim's aunt. "Ugh.! And I knew he was shot."

Twenty-five year old James McAlister was often referred to as Brian. Jackson Police tell us he was gunned down in the early morning hours of January 23rd; shot multiple times in the back and the chest.

The murder happened just off Gertrude drive in front of McAlister's home. His aunt and sister, who prefer not to be on camera, are furious that his killer has not been found.

"We were told the police department has closed the case," the aunt added. "They have to get them off the street because if they will do that to Brian, they'll do it to anybody."

Brian's aunt says after police left the crime scene the family saw evidence in the front yard they believed could lead to the murderer.

"We called them and told them we found clothing in the ditch," said Brian's aunt. They never came out there that day. It was a week later before they came out there."

"They had a suspect in custody, but they just let him go," said Brian's sister. "He's our next door neighbor. He was out there when everything was happening to Brian. He let one of the killers in a U-Haul truck with him and dropped him off somewhere and the police knew that."

We called Jackson Police to see how they're progressing with the case. Officers say there is "nothing new" regarding the investigation.

"He means nothing to them. He means the world to us," added Brian's aunt.

"He was my best friend," said his sister. "There wasn't a day we were apart. He was our rock, our backbone."
