BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A judge has postponed sentencing for an east Alabama man accused of trying to hire an FBI agent he thought was a KKK member to kill a black neighbor.

Allen Morgan was supposed to be sentenced Thursday but was postponed because the defense added an expert witness without giving the prosecution time to prepare. He pleaded guilty to his charge in October 2013.

FOX6 News did learn more about Morgan's defense. According to court documents, Morgan believes he was set up by his wife. Authorities believe this was all set in motion when Morgan's wife accused their neighbor of raping her.

Morgan's mother-in-law allegedy wanted Morgan to seek revenge for the alleged rape so she put a call in to the KKK. Birmingham FBI agents were tipped off about the alleged hit. One agent posed as a KKK hitman and enough evidence was gathered to arrest Morgan for murder for hire.

Thursday in court, it was revealed that Morgan's attorneys accuse Morgan's wife of having an affair with the neighbor and say she lied about the rape. They also accuse her of being after Morgan's VA benefits.

Neither the neighbor nor Morgan's wife have been charged in this case.
