Cheatham Co. student accused in sexual assault during school

ASHLAND CITY, TN (WSMV) -

Authorities in Cheatham County are investigating an alleged rape that reportedly happened in a high school this week during school hours.

A male student is accused of raping a female student during school hours at Cheatham County Central High School.

Both students involved are juveniles.

The Cheatham County Sheriff's Office says the male student has been arrested and is due to appear in juvenile court in the coming weeks.

The incident was reportedly caught on the school's surveillance cameras.

Parents are concerned because they had to hear about the incident from their children. But, now, the school system says its has notified parents.

Cheatham County Schools has released the following statement:

"Student safety is the primary goal for Cheatham County Schools. Upon learning of any incident that puts our students at risk, the local school and central office immediately take action to investigate the alleged occurrence.

In regards to the incident that took place on Tuesday, February 25 at Cheatham County Central High School, the school administration immediately turned the investigation over to law enforcement. Any discipline for a student involved in the incident will be handled through the school disciplinary process. Any potential legal issues that arise from this situation will be handled by law enforcement."
