State Supreme Court to hear Baker Co. School Board case

Posted: Updated:

The Georgia Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the appeal of two Baker County women who are trying to have a member of the school board removed from office.

Nettie Lilly and Janet Anderson appealed  a lower court ruling that dismissed their petition to have chairwoman Sharon Heard kicked off the board claiming she did not meet residency requirements.

Attorney Maurice king says Heard was registered in Thomas County.

"Prior to voting in baker county in 2012 Ms. Herd had basically voted in Thomasville and she was a registered voter in Thomas county she also still had a residency. Under Georgia law you can have more than one residency but you can only have one domicile," says Maurice King.

Attorneys for both sides are scheduled to present their arguments before the Georgia Supreme Court on Monday.
