WLOX Editorial: Food banks should be exempt from paying sales tax
What if 100 hungry people were standing in line to get food? Then came the announcement there is only food for 93 people. Would you want to do something to feed those other seven people? Many of you do with food and cash donations. But we believe the state can help, also.
Not by directly subsidizing food banks, but by exempting the food that agencies buy for the hungry from state and local sales tax. We give lots of tax incentives for many good reasons. We believe a sales tax exemption for feeding hungry people is a good idea.
