ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia judge earns a rare award from the national eagle scouts association.

Pataula Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Joe Bishop received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award at the annual "Character Counts" breakfast Tuesday morning.

Judge Bishop was an Eagle Scout as a boy and also worked as a scoutmaster.  He is the first person in the South Georgia council to win this award.

"When you talk about doing your best, I realize that's part of the Scout oath and that's what I try to do in any endeavor that I am involved in," said Judge Joe Bishop.

"When he's in something, he's all in. He's been all in Scouting for a long number of years," said Attorney Wilbur T. Gamble.

Only one out of one-thousand Eagle Scouts receive the Distinguished Eagle Scout award.
