JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police confirm that Christian Oatis, the 2nd suspect in the double homicide that occurred in Jackson on February 10, is now in custody. He is charged with 2 counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault.

Melvin Cortes Gibson, who was arrested on Monday, gets no bond on murder charges. His bond on aggravated assault charge is 50 thousand dollars.

On Monday, the Jackson Police Department received information on the whereabouts of Gibson.  With the assistance of the US Marshal Taskforce, the Jackson Police Department's Vice and Narcotics unit took Melvin Gibson into custody without incident.

Gibson and Oatis are believed to be the ones responsible for a double homicide in Jackson on February 10th.

34-year-old Jeremy Forrest and 24-year-old Taft Weathersby were found shot to death inside a home in the 100 block of Elcrest Street, in west Jackson. Each victim had a single gunshot wound to the head.

The third shooting victim was found alive, according to Jackson police.

Preliminary investigation led detectives to issue warrants for 38-year-old Gibson and 20-year-old Oatis for 2 counts of murder and 1 count of aggravated assault.

Gibson is also connected to a triple shooting investigation back in 2011. During the investigation Gibson was charged as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477 or the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234.
