TSA PreCheck application center opens in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Transportation Security Administration announced on Monday the officialopening of an application site in Savannah for TSA PreCheck, which is screeningprogram that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear andbelt, keep their laptop in its case and keep liquids/gels bag in a carry-onbag.

TSA is in the process of expanding to more than 300 application centersacross the country. The TSA PreCheck application process allows U.S. citizensand lawful permanent residents to go through a pre-enrollment process online and visit anapplication center to provide biographic information (e.g. name, date of birth,address, etc. It costs $85 for a five-year membership.  

Applicants who are approved get a Known Traveler Number and will have theopportunity to utilize TSA PreCheck lanes at security checkpoints at more than115 participating airports on nine major U.S. airlines including: AlaskaAirlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways,Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

More than 30 million passengers have used the TSA PreCheck program sinceOctober 2011.
