MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - If you live in Moss Point, you may be wondering why your water appears to be discolored and if it is safe to drink. City officials tell WLOX News that the water is safe despite the slight discoloration.
Officials said the problems started Wednesday night when a break occurred in the main line at the reverse osmosis water treatment plant. The emergency repair to fix the main line led to a second break.
Officials said the city had to rush order replacement parts, pipe and fittings Thursday. Repairs have been underway since the parts arrived.
Officials said the water that was servicing Moss Point residents was not being filtered using reverse osmosis, but was treated with chlorine, causing the water to appear discolored.
City officials want to assure residents that although the water may appear discolored, that it is safe to drink and use.
Moss Point Alderman Wayne Lennep said the problem is now fixed and the discoloration should be completely gone by Sunday.
