MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - A Moss Point man pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery on January 13, 2014.
District Attorney Tony Lawrence said Joseph Dewberry, 21, will serve 15 years in prison and 15 years on probation for sexually abusing two children who were ages 10 and 11 at the time of the abuse. Dewberry will have to pay $4,000 in combined court costs and fines as well as $1,000 to the Mississippi Children's Trust Fund.
He is ordered to have no contact with the victims and must register as a sex offender when released from prison.
"I am proud that the victims and their families were able to see justice served in court today," said Assistant District Attorney Kathlyn Van Buskirk.
"While this sentence will not bring back their innocence, it holds the defendant accountable for his actions against these two vulnerable members of society.
"When a defendant commits an act against a child, it affects that child's childhood, that child's future and that child's family," said District Attorney Tony Lawrence.
