HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Hammond officials have big plans to improve the city's 43 bus stops in the coming years.
The Hammond City Council has agreed for Geaux Benches of Baton Rouge to install benches at all the stops.
City officials will follow that up by installing covers at the bus stops over the next five years.
Lacy Landrum, city grants manager, tells The Daily Star (http://bit.ly/1h4PYpo ) funding for the covers would come through the Federal Transit Administration, for which the city is eligible due to its membership in the Metropolitan Planning Organization, in accordance with city's plan for the coming years.
Mayor Mayson Foster says adding the benches will be a great convenience for citizens who need the local transportation.
