BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The annual Biloxi Boat and RV Show added a new twist this year. The event, slated for this weekend at the Coast Coliseum, will offer a unique one-day fishing tournament on Saturday featuring guaranteed cash payouts for sheepshead along with redfish and speckled trout.

The Stripes, Spots and Dots Tournament is sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association and will award $2,500 for the heaviest sheepshead and $2,500 for the heaviest stringer of two speckled trout and one redfish. The redfish must be in the slot limit of between 18 and 30 inches long.

The Striped Division for sheepshead will also award $750 for second place and $250 for third. The Spots and Dots Division will award the same money for second and third place.

A youth division is also available with prizes being awarded.

Fishing will begin at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and scales will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. inside the coliseum.

The entry fee is $30 for CCA members and $45 for non-members. The entry fee for the youth division is $10, and all proceeds will benefit the CCA Scholarship Fund and marine research.

"There are a lot of great tournaments on the Coast now so CCA really wanted to try to create something fun and different that would expand participation and provide a challenge," said CCA Executive Director Johnny Marquez.

"The Stripes Division created a great chance to go after a non-traditional fish that is very plentiful this time of the year. There are big sheepshead all over the structures right now so there should be plenty of opportunity to compete for a guaranteed first place (prize) of $2,500. We also know we have some die-hard trout and redfish guys too."

A mandatory captain's meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Chill Bar inside the IP Casino in Biloxi. For more information, go to, or call (228) 202-1833.
