Residents can only wait for rural roads to be plowed

(Toledo News Now) -

While crews continue to work on city streets, many rural roads are still snow-packed, and often times the last to be plowed. Residents say it's just another reason why summer can't come fast enough.

Folks in rural parts of Hancock County say they're getting used to snow-covered streets and waiting for them to be plowed.

"Usually, this road is pretty clear, but our side streets are a little on the tricky side," said Yancy Richmond, a North Baltimore resident.

Richmond and his friends turned to John Deere Tuesday to help clear the piles of snow building up in front of his home. He's one of many people in Hancock County who have had difficulty getting out of their homes over the last few weeks, due to the amount of snow and slow road cleaning.

While county and state crews are usually on top of getting main roads cleared and laying down salt, people on rural streets have just had to deal with the snow - and the complications it brings - until it melts, or road crews finally get to them, which at times can take up to three days.

"I live out in the country, and they're all drifted right now. It's tough getting around," said Rick Emahiser, who helps friends clear snow.

"You just got to wait until the snow is done, and then they clear the streets," said Richmond.

The Findlay Mayor's Office posted a warning on its Facebook page, saying most residential areas will have to wait until city crews hit main and secondary roads. Officials say the Hancock County Sheriff's Office spotted several cars in the roadway waiting for plows.

Crews are hoping warm weather the rest of this week will work in their favor and help speed up the process.
