Springfield police officer arrested in prostitution sting

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A city police officer was arrested on Friday in Windsor Locks, CT.

Police there told CBS 3 that John Wadlegger was one of 11 men arrested in a prostitution sting.

The 42-year-old is a detective on Springfield's vice unit.

Sgt. John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department said Wadlegger has been placed on desk duty while the department conducts its own internal investigation.

Delaney said Wadlegger had no previous issues and was a model employee.

Windsor Locks police said "Operation Cupid" involved police placing an ad on a popular internet site used by those who wish to purchase sex for money.

Police said two other Western Massachusetts residents were busted in the sting.

They were Jesse Coughlin of Chester and Ravindra Wikramanaya of Chicopee.
