OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

One minor is dead and another is in critical condition after an early morning police pursuit started in Ocean Springs and ended with a crash in Gautier.

Ocean Springs police said officers started chasing a car reported stolen out of Biloxi shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Hanley Road and Government Street.

Officials said the chase ended on Old Spanish Trial in Gautier when the car crashed and the two juveniles, both male, were ejected.

Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus said 16-year-old Markell Hill, a Biloxi High School student, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other juvenile, who police identified as the driver, was transported to the Ocean Springs Hospital in serious condition with injuries to the spine, neck and body.

Ocean Springs Detective Captain William Jackson said the driver is being charged with traffic violations. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
