VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

East bound lanes of the Mississippi River Bridge at Vicksburg have reopened, and the west bound lanes should reopen in the next couple of hours. The bridge had been closed since 4 a.m. Wednesday because of a chemical spill.

An 18-wheeler skidded on the ice and crashed into a railing and at least four other tractor-trailer rigs were involved in the accident.

One of the trucks, a tanker, was leaking Isopropyl 2-Chloropropionate, which is highly flammable and toxic.

MDOT has been recommending that westbound traffic on I-20 use alternate routes of I-59 S out of Meridian or I-55 S out of Jackson to I-10 W, or I-55 S to US 84 W and cross the Mississippi River at Natchez then use US 425 N or US 65 N to reconnect with I-20 W in Louisiana.
