GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A South Mississippi dog won Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club's 138th Annual Dog Show in New York at Madison Square Garden Tuesday morning.
GCH Wrightwyn's Power Play, also known as "Rion," is the number one Bedlington Terrier in the country. The almost three-year-old is owned and shown by Sandra Bethea.
Bethea is a coast groomer, who owns "K-9 Paws" in Gulfport. This is not her first trip to Westminster to compete. She's been 10 times and won eight places, including Best of Breed with Rion's grandparents and great grandparents.
Prior to this week's Westminster competition, Rion became America's number one Bedlington Terrier in 15 American Kennel Club Competitions in a row, scoring enough points for the title.
At Westminster, Rion will have to win his Terrier Group competition Tuesday night. If he does that, he'll get a shot at Best In Show. That final showdown is also taking place Tuesday night, following the completion of the group competitions.
By the way, a dog from Baton Rouge, Louisiana has already secured a spot in the Best In Show competition. GCH Riverside Telltail Coco Posh, a Cardigan Welsh Corgi, won first place in the Herding Group Monday night.
