Haddie's Home opens in Opelika as a refuge for girls in crisis

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

A home in Opelika, built with the purpose of helping girls in crisis, has officially opened its doors to the community.

After years in the making, Haddie's Home will now officially become home to young girls facing serious problems.

Haddie's Home seeks to be a place of safety, love and protection for girls in crisis. The home has received its license from the state, and will now start accepting applications.

It's a unique floor plant that has been renovated to house six girls, from age six to 18, and from all across the state of Alabama.

T.R. Amason, Executive Director of Haddie's Home, says, "We want to help break that cycle of abuse and neglect. Help these girls to grow up, and be women that can be wonderful moms, and have families of their own."

Amason grew up in the foster care system herself. She says she and her husband, Phillip, will become mom and dad to these girls, supporting them in every aspect of their lives.

Girls can be referred to the Haddie's Home by a private referral, like a relative, or an attorney. They must also complete an application to ensure Haddie's Home will be their best fit.
