LUDLOW, MA (WSHM) -

A 1-year-old Pomeranian named Scrunchy is making a comeback after police say he was severely beaten and left to die in a snowbank by his owner last week.

Ludlow police responded to the Acorn Street home of Ricardo Costa after someone called in saying they had heard he had beaten the dog to death.

Costa ended up leading police to the dog's nearly lifeless body at Red Bridge Park.

Officers rushed the little dog to Boston Road Animal Hospital.

He underwent surgery in Weymouth, MA at VCA South Shore. He is expected to be discharged tomorrow.

Scrunchy suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.

But as of Monday he's doing very well according to petchance.org, a nonprofit that helped raise money for Scrunchy's treatment.

The MSPCA has appointed Scrunchy an owner and they are hoping to raise $15,000 to continue his treatments.

Costa is facing animal cruelty charges.
