D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - The plan to widen the bridge on old Highway 67 is just another sign of D'Iberville's growth. While Interstate 10 will be closed Saturday night for 14 hours, folks who regularly use the bridge will be detoured to a longer way around.
Although the Sangani Boulevard project did cause many area business owners to see a decrease in business, they still believe the old Highway 67 widening project is a good thing.
"We're glad all the road construction's going on, because when it's done it's only going to benefit all the businesses in this area," said Stacy Thunelius, owner of Beef O'Brady's.
Fellow business owner Pam Thompson agrees and believes there are only better days ahead, especially when it's making room for economic growth.
"They're kind of used to it now, with everything that's been going on. They'll have a few concerns here and there, but other than that nothing major," said Councilman Randall Pelous.
Pelous and Mayor Rusty Quave can't help but be proud of all the great things happening for their city.
"This is a very exciting time not just for the City of D'Iberville , but the entire Gulf Coast. This project here can make this a regional location, a regional destination for shopping," said Quave.
Pelous says the city has about $600 million worth of construction projects going on and in the making.
