Ludlow man arrested for beating dog

Posted: Updated:
LUDLOW, MA (WSHM) -

Ricardo Costa, 40, of Ludlow was arrested for beating his dog Thursday night.

Sgt. Daniel Valadas told CBS 3 a call came in around 7 p.m. from a woman who witnessed a man beating a dog.

When police arrived to Costa's Acorn Lane home, he admitted to hitting the dog with a pair of metal shears. Costa said he did it because the dog had gone to bathroom inside the home.

He then lead police to a parking lot near Red Bridge State Park where he dumped the 1-year-old Pomeranian's body. Police said the dog was still alive and was taken to Boston Road Animal Hospital in Springfield.

Costa is charged with felony cruelty or maiming of an animal.

He is expected to be arraigned in Palmer District Court on Friday.
