RESCHEDULED: I-85 lane closures rescheduled for Feb. 13

Weather permitting, Interstate 85 between mile markers 14 and 16 will intermittently be reduced to one lane in each direction between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Thursday, Feb.13, as work continues on the Montgomery Outer Loop project.

State Troopers will assist with traffic control during the single lane closures.

Motorists should anticipate these types of closures throughout the remainder of the year and are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. For ALDOT Road Conditions information, visit www.dot.state.al.us.

This construction is part of the ongoing Montgomery Outer Loop project to build an extension from I-85 to State Route 110 (Vaughn Road). Under a $66 million contract awarded by the Alabama Department of Transportation, Bessemer-based R.R. Dawson Bridge Co. is realigning portions of U.S. Highway 80 and State Route 126, making ramp changes at the Waugh Exit on I-85, and building a series of overpasses and bridges. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2014.

An additional project, expected to begin at the conclusion of this project and take up to 24 months, will pave the roadway between I-85 and Vaughn Road before the route is opened to traffic.
