Hickman Co. family's home destroyed in fire

PLEASANTVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Hickman County family lost their home to a fire Wednesday morning. The house is on the 900 block of McClearen Hollow Road in Pleasantville.

The volunteer fire department had a tough time getting to the home because of flooded roads and had to go through Perry County and take a back way to get to the home.

The house is considered to be a total loss.

"They lost everything. Thirty-two years they've lived there, lived there since I was four years old and they lost everything," said daughter Rachel Moore.

"They lost everything. Thirty-two years they've lived there, lived there since I was four years old and they lost everything," said daughter Rachel Moore.

Harvey and Johnnie Moore and one of their daughters was home when the fire started about 4 a.m.

Smoke alarms woke them up, and they ran outside and called 911.

Harvey Moore burned his feet trying to put the fire out himself while waiting for help, but the family says firefighters didn't show up for over an hour.

"We built the house. We were kids. We logged it and cut the lumber and hammered all the nails in it and it's all gone," said daughter Rebecca Moore.

The Moores' daughters say efforts to fix the problem road have been fruitless.

"The county won't fix the road, and it does this every time is rains," Rachel Moore said.

The American Red Cross in Hickman County is taking donations to help the Moores with clothing and shelter.
