Accident cleared after big rig catches fire on I-20

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

Westbound traffic on Interstate 20 in Kilgore was down to one lane after an 18-wheeler caught fire on Monday evening.

It happened just after 6 P.M. in Kilgore, about a half-mile west of the Highway 259 exit. The driver of the truck was headed for Amarillo, when one of his tires caught fire.

Authorities told KLTV 7 that another 18-wheeler pulled over, and the driver of the second truck went to help the driver of the burning rig.

By the time he got to the truck with a fire extinguisher, the fire had spread to the cab.

No one was injured, but traffic was shut down to just one lane near the scene of the fire, but all lanes have since opened back up and the wreck has been cleared.

Kilgore police, the Kilgore Fire Department, and the Sabine Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the fire.
