ETX man charged after bringing gun into jail facility

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man jailed forpublic intoxication, is additionally charged for bringing a firearm into ajail facility.

Police had arrested52-year-old Samuel Fields of Longview on Saturday night for publicintoxication near Electra street.

Fields wasinitially searched by officers after being placed under arrest, but somehowmanaged to conceal a weapon. A weapon which was found ina pat-down by Gregg County Jailers.

"You sit at the book-in deskuntil they book you in, then you go back to a holding cell until they processyou. Mr. Fields had a weapon in the pocket of his pants. Patted him downwhen they got him to the jail, he had a pistol," says Longview Police Officer Kristie Brian.

Fields wascharged with possession of a deadly weapon in a penal institution, and remainsjailed on 5-thousand dollars bond.
