(WMC - TV) - Late Friday night Shelby County Schools tweeted: "urgent employee update regarding #SCS W-2 Forms."  The tweet linked to a letter issued to all SCS employees asking them to check their W-2 forms which were mailed out Friday.

The glitch only affects legacy Memphis City School employees who contributed to retirement and/or pay for health benefits.  Those employees should not use the forms for tax preparation, doing so will result in an incorrect tax return.

The district says it has already begun processing correct W-2 forms.  Those should be mailed by Monday, February 3.

The problem stems from Shelby County Schools merger as of July 1, 2013.

All legacy MCS employees received two W-2 forms for working January through July of 2013 for MCS.
