Woman dies in Washington Parish car accident

Updated:

WARNERTON, LA (WVUE) - Two women were hit by a car while walking on La. 438 in Washington Parish, leaving one dead and one injured.

According to State Police, Melanie Rivero and Alexis Bergeron, both from Tylertown, MS, were walking with traffic in the westbound lane when Brody Reed of Franklinton, hit them with his car.

The accident killed Rivero and left Bergeron with minor injuries that she refused treatment for. Reed was wearing his seatbelt during the crash and was not injured. Police says speed and impairment were not factors in the accident on Reed's part, but impairment is suspected on Rivero's. Toxicology tests are pending.
