Man in custody after deadly Lee's Summit shooting

LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -

A man is in custody after a deadly shooting early Saturday morning.

Police were called to a home near Northeast Maggie Avenue and Northeast Douglas Street about 2 a.m. on a fight in a front yard.

Before police arrived, the disturbance escalated to a shooting.

"The three people involved had been out all evening. Once they arrived home here an argument ensued, about their additional destinations possibly or where people were going to stay for the evening," said Sgt. Chris Depue with the Lee's Summit Police Department. "The argument ensued and escalated quickly into a shooting."

Officers arrived to find 29-year-old Jason K. Starchman of Kansas City, MO, shot in the front yard. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police said a man in his 40s surrendered peacefully at the scene and the two knew each other.

The prosecutor's office has reviewed the initial investigation and asked for addition information about the events that lead up to the shooting. The suspect has been released at this time.
