A shorter school year for Mississippi?

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Progress is stalled on a bill that would shorten the school year for Mississippi students.

The House Education Committee considered the bill yesterday, but took no action. The proposed law would change the state's public school year from 180 days to 175.

The bill is sponsored by Representative John Moore of Brandon.

He says he believes the class days could be dropped without hurting learning. The bill would also ban schools from starting class before the third Monday of August.
