George County/Lucedale under 7pm-7am curfew

GEORGE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

George County and the City of Lucedale are the only two places in South Mississippi with a curfew still in effect Wednesday night. The curfew will start at 7pm and run until 7am Thursday.

The main concern is the condition of the roads, especially after seeing dozens of roadside emergencies Wednesday.

Officials said most major bridges and overpasses in George County were still completely or partially covered with ice Wednesday afternoon. Forecasters predict driving conditions will worsen again overnight during a "re-freeze" of melted ice.

The George County School District will remain closed on Thursday. George County Solid Waste crews will resume household garbage pickup at 10 a.m. Thursday morning running the "Tuesday Route."

All County offices will reopen at 11 Thursday morning. County employees with pressing deadlines and/or essential business need to contact their department manager to discuss schedules. Emergency personnel and staff will remain overnight.

City of Lucedale offices will reopen at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The George County Dept. of Human Services will reopen at 11 a.m. on Thursday. And the George County Senior Citizens Building will be closed on Thursday.
