First coast casino closes due to weather

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The first and only one of the 12 casinos on the coast to close during the cold weather is Boomtown in Biloxi. Casino executives made the decision Tuesday evening. 

At 6 p.m. announcements were made over a loud speaker that the casino was closing.

Signs were posted on the front doors of the casino to let customers know they are closed due to the weather.  

The casino's marketing director says she knows they're the only gambling facility to close for this cold weather, but she says they wanted to put safety first for their mostly local customers and employees.

"We're a different kind of model of casino anyway. You know we don't have the spa and hotel, we really rely on employees and we have great employees. Great customers and we're kind of comfortable local place," said Boomtown Marketing Director Sunita Sailor.

The casino is scheduled to reopen at 10 tomorrow morning. Those customers with any questions about the casino can call 1-800-627-0777.
