Conditions deteriorating in Jackson County

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Jackson County Emergency Management Agency Director Earl Etheridge says, ice pellets have continued to fall in Jackson County deteriorating the driving conditions in the county.

Etheridge says the two Highway 90 bridges between Gautier and Pascagoula are down to one lane for both east and west traffic.

Fort Bayou Bridge on 609 in Ocean Springs is closed. The Fourteenth Street overpass in Pascagoula is closed and a number of secondary roads throughout the county are closed.

"We think, as the storm progresses throughout the night, we expect more road closures," Etheridge said. "Right now, Highways 63 and 613 are still open in Moss Point and so is I-10. We've had a number of minor accidents throughout the county, as well."

He said there have been no reports of any power outages. Etheridge urges residents, to stay home. The Salvation Army in Pascagoula is open as a cold weather shelter. It is located on Nathan Hale Avenue.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Troop K troopers are working multiple crashes on I-10, from LA to AL.
