Winter Storm descends on South Mississippi

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

The WLOX 24-7 Weather Team is currently tracking a significant winter storm that may impact parts of South Mississippi early this week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all six of Mississippi's coastal counties, along with many interior counties. This watch will go into effect Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. and will continue through Wednesday morning at 6 a.m.

WLOX and NWS meteorologists are predicting significant amounts of wintry precipitation beginning as early as Monday night and winding down Wednesday morning. The area includes all of South Mississippi along a line from Meadville to Waynesboro and south.

This winter precipitation could bring some of the same conditions we saw Friday night, if not more. As with all winter storms there is the possibility for road and bridge closures. If you must travel in these conditions, we ask that you drive safely and slowly and remain aware of your surroundings.

The WLOX Weather Team is working to keep our viewers up-to-date with the newest information on this winter storm.
