HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

He was the star actor in movies like, "The Blues Brothers" and "Ghostbusters," now Dan Aykroyd is Hinds County's newest deputy.

"Raise your right hand and repeat after me," said Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis.

While in town filming the movie "Get On Up" Aykroyd decided he wanted to be apart of the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Lewis deputized him Friday at Hinds County headquarters.

Aykroyd received a uniform, patches and a new badge.

"It's got the eagle on there, the chicken as they call it. I like this. It was probably worn by a veteran officer and it's an honor to have it," Aykroyd said.

"I don't know if this going to be my number or not, 645. But, what's that add up to? 6, 5. 4 it adds up to five so that's good numerology thing," Aykroyd added.

Aykroyd said if there is some type of emergency in the county he will be happy to come work under the sheriff.

He will also serve an executive role helping the county with other challenges it faces.
