Overnight fires keep crews busy

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Two brush fires broke out Thursday night, keeping crews busy. Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan tells us the first started around 10:45 p.m. on Cemetery Road. As of 9:00 a.m. Friday, that fire is still burning, but officials say it is under control.

The second brush fire broke out around 2:30 Friday morning off 16th Section Road in West Harrison County. There are homes in that area, but there is no damage to report.

Since the beginning of the year, the State Forestry Commission says 115 wildfires have charred more than a thousand acres in Mississippi.

Firefighters also worked a trailer fire around 9:15 Thursday night, near Landon and Hughes Road, east of County Farm. WLOX has learned three people inside the trailer were able to get out safely. No one was injured, but the trailer sustained major damage.
