TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) – A mother and three children are out of their homes after a late night cooking fire on the Eastside.

It happened around 10:30 Thursday night in the 8600 block of East Old Spanish Trail, near Camino Seco and Broadway.

The Tucson Fire Department says the mother was warming up some oil for cooking. She stepped away and the oil ignited. Her friend, who was also in the apartment, alerted her to the fire. That's when they all went outside. Once the children were out of the home, the mother went back in and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

Upon arrival, fire crews noticed black smoke. Firefighters put out the remaining flames and had the fire under control in 13 minutes.

There were no injuries.

The family is going to stay with a friend.
