Businesses and patrons react to prospect of new baseball stadium

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The eve of the new baseball stadium's ground breaking had many anticipating what's to come.

Local merchants believe the minor league sport will not only add revenue for their shops, but also more value to the city of Biloxi.

"I think it's a great asset to the community," said Greg Iverson.

"It's going to not only going to help the existing businesses, but it's going to generate a lot more businesses coming in."

"When you're putting something that big in the area, all it's going to do is help out with the value of everything," said John Grahm.

Along with business owners, locals also believe the arrival of the Southern League will draw more visibility and tourism to the Coast of Mississippi.

"Any kind of new blood, in addition to what we already have, only makes the soup better," Jason Gladney said.

Folks are also happy they'll no longer have to travel outside the state to see a good ball game. They believe bringing in baseball to the downtown Biloxi area is going to be a wonderful thing.

"As long as people go to the games, I think we'll see an increase in revenue to most of these business throughout this area," said Dominic Virgil.
