BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Ken Young has high hopes for baseball in Biloxi, and promises to be a very involved owner when the shout of play ball is first heard.
"I'll be walking the stadium, talking to the fans, hopefully they'll know, at least some of them will know who I am and I just get out there and talk to them," Young said.
He also promises a good time.
"We will keep it fun; we'll keep it fresh too. When you walk in opening day, people are going to love it."
A contest will be held to name the team, but Young says only one thing is certain.
"The city of Biloxi is committing a minimum of $21 million, and so they deserve the right, I believe to have that name."
As for the name of the stadium, that has not been publicly released, the marquee at Beau Rivage today answers that question, MGM Park.
Young says people will be surprised by the level of talent in Double A ball.
"They'll go directly from Double A to the major leagues, and sometimes if they need more seasoning they may come back and come back to Triple A."
Going to a game will not break the bank either.
"It will be affordable. I think it will compete very favorably with movies and we understand that it needs to be affordable for the everyday fan."
When the new $36 million stadium opens up on the property owned by the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, it will be a lot of fun, but it's not going to be just about fun and games. You see, Ken Young is also a businessman.
"Sports typically don't have, especially minor league sports, don't have real big profits but we would hope to at least make some money on it."
Baseball backers are hoping the sport will be a profitable venture for years to come.
Meanwhile, the groundbreaking for the new stadium will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the parking lot on Highway 90, directly across the street from Beau Rivage.
Of course WLOX News will have extensive coverage of the event both on TV and on-line.
