TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa police have arrested two teenage suspects for stealing a doll from an eight-year-old girl at a Wal-Mart.

Police said the girl and her grandmother were shopping at the Wal-Mart on East Skyland Blvd. on Dec. 14 when they stepped away from their cart momentarily. The child's doll was wrapped in the girl's sweatshirt in the cart, and police say the suspects unwrapped the doll and took it.

Last week, Tuscaloosa police released surveillance images showing the two suspects in the Wal-Mart in hopes of identifying and charging them. The suspects were identified just a few hours after police released the photos.

Michael Wayne Olmstead, 18, of Duncanville, was arrested on Jan. 16. He was charged with third degree theft and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $300 bond. He has since bonded out.

Sidney Morgan Haynie, 18, of Duncanville, was arrested on Jan. 17 for third degree theft. Police say she was released after posting a $500 bond.

Olmstead tells FOX6 News he took the doll because he wanted to calm down his 5-month-old son. He says he put the doll back down about 10 feet from the victim's cart.

"If we would have known it was somebody else's buggy then we would have never touched it," Haynie said.

The pair has a court date in early February.
