Grand opening held for Dept. of Public Safety South-Central location

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A grand opening ceremony was held for the new Montgomery Department of Public Safety South-Central location Tuesday morning. It was a rebirth of sorts inside the old Montgomery Mall property.

The Department of Public Safety now houses both its East and South police precincts on the property, as well as community policing and Fire Station No. 9.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and other officials were on hand for the official ribbon cutting. Strange used the occasion to challenge the Montgomery Board of Education to develop MTech on the other side of the property.

Dept. of Public Safety leaders say the new facility will help cut down on response times for both medical and fire calls.

Fire Station No. 9 is the first new fire station for the city in the last 15 years.

WSFA 12 News will have more coverage of Tuesday's grand opening in each of our newscasts as well as here on WSFA.COM. Continue checking back for updates.
