Celebrating Robert E. Lee

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Robert E. Lee's birthday is also celebrated on this third Monday of January.

The magnolia state is one of several states across the south that recognizes the confederate army commander's birthday.

After the Civil War, Lee was appointed as president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia.

The school was later renamed to include his name in his honor.

Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia all honor Lee with different events on the same day they recognize Martin Luther King's birthday.

Lee was born on January 19, 807.
