JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Tributes for the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are being held in cities across the nation.

Here in Jackson residents, civil rights and city leaders gathered at Freedom Corner for the annual wreath laying ceremony.

This is at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Medgar Evers Boulevard in northwest Jackson.

A small march took also took place. Leaders are encouraging our youths to take a more active role in the community.

"Not only did we have a good turn out today, the parade was excellent," said Hinds County resident Ethel Mangum.

"We had people out here today, I've never seen before and that was excellent," Mangum continued.

"People are getting it, it's just slowly. When we start putting more young people in these positions it's going to get better," Mangum added.
