SAN DIEGO, CA (WWBT) -

A Hermitage High School graduate is in stable condition after she was stabbed several times and a California military base.

Emily Hammonds is still receiving care at Scripps Mercy Hospital. She was stabbed over the weekend at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, according to WAVY.com. Marine officials told the NBC-affiliate in Virginia Beach a second Marine involved in the stabbing was detained, but did not specify if the Marine was charged.

Hammonds had lived in Virginia Beach before joining the Marine Corps and moving to California.

Investigators are still working to find out what led to the stabbing Saturday.
