UPDATE: Woman killed by train identified

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Authorities have identified the woman that was hit and killed by a train Friday night in Biloxi.

Harrison County Deputy Coroner Charles Wise identified the victim as 22-year-old Alishia Michelle Bates Newman of Petal, MS.

Authorities said Newman and one other person were trying to cross the railroad tracks near Greater Avenue shortly after 7 p.m.

"They were actually headed southbound to go eat at a local restaurant when they attempted to cross the tracks before the train," said Wise.

"One of them made it, and the other didn't."
