DALLAS CO., AL (WSFA) -

Investigators with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office and Alabama Bureau of Investigation are looking into an apparent suicide at the Dallas County Jail.

Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman says he received a call about an inmate hanging himself at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

The sheriff hasn't released the inmate's name but says he had only been in the jail five days.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, the victim has been identified as Jerusalem Festes Grimes. He was in jail on a DUI and for probation violations out of Shelby County.

Sheriff Huffman said it's the first death inside the jail "in many years."

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating this case, which is standard procedure.

An autopsy will be performed in Montgomery, according to the sheriff.
