Are people still flooding the new outlet mall?

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Outlets of Mississippi are proving to be a success in Pearl. The bargain stores continue attracting shoppers from all over the state and beyond.

"I went to the Reebok store and got buy one get one for 20 dollars, so you can't beat it," said shopper Ryan Dehoog.

Dehoog and Eddie Johnson are proof The Outlets of Mississippi are attracting business from outside the metro area.

"We live in Tupelo," said Johnson. "We have some malls, but the selection here is a lot better."

More than 300 thousand square feet of retail sits in the heart of Pearl. Since the grand opening back in November, General Manager Kathy Hackshaw says business continues booming.

"Traffic has been awesome" said Hackshaw. "In fact, we just looked it up and we have had almost a million people here since the day we opened."

Hackshaw, who has opened outlets in other states, says this number is above average. She says the daily traffic numbers are better than expected.

"We are seeing people from all over the state and surrounding states," added Hackshaw. "In fact, we had a bus come down from Memphis last week. January for outlets is a slower month just like it is for everybody. But, we are still seeing about six or seven thousand people a day and Saturdays and Sundays are a little busier than that."

As for expansion, Hackshaw says some plans cannot be revealed at the moment, but can confirm more than the female clothing store Forever 21 will soon open its doors.

"Well, Haggar is building out so the men will have another place to shop," said Hackshaw. "Because we have been a little light on men's clothing. Haggar opens in about a month."

Hacksaw says the company is currently working out deals with area hotels and visitor's bureaus to attract even more shoppers to the outlets.
